A healthy relationship has mutual respect and deep trust in each other as basic pillars. However, in some relationships to keep the peace or out of genuine love some men may end up tolerating the behaviors that are extremely toxic in nature. The fear of losing their partner and predictability this life provided keeps them from reacting to the disrespect by walking away. They show restraint to speak up even when enraged. They prefer the connection over their self-respect but many times this reluctance to defend may come across weakness or insecurity.  However, here are 14 things that only weak men tolerate in their relationships, not the ones who are scared of losing a loved one.

Constant Disrespect

These men grow a thick skin around toxic behaviors like their partners’ sarcastic eye-rolls, condescending public jokes, cutting them off while they talk, or trying every way to tear them down. They are too worried about ending up alone as they don’t feel secure and confident they can find someone better. They put up with the disrespect instead of walking away with dignity.

Being Treated Like a Backup Plan

They are fully aware that their partner views them as a backup option. They get approached only when she has no one else to spend time with, and get isolated the moment a better man shows up. Any man with a strong character would not endure this kind of emotional abuse but some men allow this toxic behavior to continue unabated as they are desperate for a connection or fear of being alone. They have become used to bread crumbing and taking a strong step feels scary.

One-Sided Effort

Even the strongest relationships fail in the absence of two sided efforts and emotional  investment. But a weak man doesn’t hesitate in taking the burden of the entire emotional labor of the relationship. They are conditioned to believe they are inadequate and hence they overcompensate by tolerating abuse endlessly.

Being Under-appreciated for Their Efforts

An ungrateful partner is the worst partner. However, you can’t talk sense into a weak man’s head, who is okay with overgiving while receiving the bare minimum and zero acknowledgment from his partner. Such men just fear one thing and that’s to end up alone so they stick to the wrong partner.

Ultimatums Or Threats

Believe it or not, threats or ultimatums to force someone into submission is a form of control in a relationship. Weak men are too scared to defy their overbearing partner by sticking to their stance, they give up on it to appease their partner as long as it promises familiarity and peace. Strong men may recognise these signs early on in the relationship before they commit to a serious relationship

Being Treated as the Scapegoat

When stuck with a manipulative partner these men rarely protest or defend themselves when they are blamed for everything that goes wrong in the relationship. This gives the manipulator power over the narrative and an easy escape from accountability while the men keep compromising their self-respect and dignity to accommodate the former ego.

No Support for Their Goals

Men with a strong sense of worth and self-confidence never settle for less than what they deserve. They never sacrifice their individuality, goals, passions, connections or anything that makes them, them. While a weak man lets his partner take away his decision making and aspirations, and hence identity by constant mocking and criticisms.

Being Shamed for His Emotions

Strong men know who to open up to if a woman dares cross his limits he knows she’s not the right woman for him and he steps back. But a man with low integrity tolerates a woman constantly ridiculing or mocking his emotions and vulnerabilities.

Double Standards

A healthy relationship requires two individuals who are willing to go to great lengths for each other and maintain a healthy balance at home. While men who lack the emotional capacity and strength to fight for their just rights may suffer silently as they undergo unequal treatment. She has all the control, she maintains her boundaries and personal space while denying him the same rights.

Over-Apologizing

When any conflict arises, they are the first ones to seek apology. Whether or not it’s their fault they will show flexibility while their partner continues unabashedly with their entitled behaviors. Sometimes, a man may not be inherently weak, but by being gaslit and corrected for too long he may develop self-doubt and confusion so he loses grip of reality. He starts seeing himself as inferior.

Fear Based Love

A weak man may be driven by his insecurities or fear of abandonment all the time. He may have an anxious attachment style. It keeps him trapped for longer than he should in a painful dynamic. He fears being abandoned by his partner which gives impunity to his partner to continue degrading him.

Being Responsible For Everything

Such men may be burdened with all of the responsibilities, household chores, default parenting, finances and so forth. Despite crumbling down under the one-sided weight of labor and efforts he keeps silent to keep the relationship alive. Being responsible is fine but an unfair, unwanted, or persistently unacknowledged imbalance is what makes it problematic.

Taking on a Love that Hurts

These men fear to be on their own. They stick by a partner whose behaviors are downright abusive and toxic just because he doesn’t want to be lonely. So, he chooses painful company over love that heals and strengthens.

Final Thoughts

One dynamic in isolation is rarely enough to label a man weak, but when many of these patterns are present he may be too insecure and afraid to seek a path of his own preserving his integrity and self-respect over love that hurts constantly.
