It is a relationship in which men go the extra mile and invest a lot in it, with a lot of thinking. They pay bills, solve issues and have emotions to boot while waiting for a simple thank you. At times it seems like the work is more of a burden and the man feels like he’s doing the work and not receiving anything in return. This list isn’t about being bitter, it’s about awareness and self-respect. It is like a wake-up call to tell yourself when you’re wasting effort.

Doing ‘All the Heavy Lifting’ Literally and Figuratively

It’s exhausting when you’re doing it all by yourself. Men see when you are expected to do something and you don’t show appreciation. There has to be a balance of work and responsibility in partnership. Sharing of responsibilities means that no one has to work as hard as he or she could, and no one will feel resentful when asked to do too much. Relationships are built on a give and take basis.

Always Initiating Plans

Planning dates, trips or nights out alone can make the relationship feel unbalanced. There should be a partnership, but some women leave it all to their partner. Men pick up that their energy level is being depleted organizing unappreciated experiences. But when planning is a chore instead of a fun activity, the excitement wanes. It takes two to tango.

Constant Chauffeuring

Taking her everywhere can be sweet at first, but is soon very exhausting. When she doesn’t offer to help, there is a silent resentment for paying for gas, waiting and being her personal taxi. Little things, such as helping out, or expressing thanks, have a big impact. If someone is taking on all the burden this is no longer a partnership. Men will see when their time and efforts are taken for granted, not appreciated.

Taking All the Blame in Fights

Taking the blame for a lack of conflict is like solitude punishment. Men see when the only one who is held accountable is the man. If one is blamed in all battles, one loses respect and builds resentment. Discussions must be open with a shared responsibility. Resolution without conflict doesn’t have to be a compromise on dignity or fairness.

Always Picking Up the Tab

If she doesn’t pay or shows appreciation, it becomes tiring to go out every time or buy meals. Men are sensitive to when generosity becomes obligation. It’s more about disseminating and less about sharing. Relationships should be balanced, but if only one person is spending money, it will cause frustration. If he keeps on paying out and isn’t getting anything in return, he begins to wonder what he’s doing it for.

Sacrificing Friendships

It is a big mistake for many men to sever friendships due to suspicion or control from a lover. Friendship offers identity, support and perspective. It doesn’t feel fair to give them up to not respecting the boundaries. Men begin to ask themselves why they gave up long-term bonds for short-term approval. Healthy relationships don’t mean the loss of friendships.

Over-the-Top Gift Giving

Giving her gifts makes her feel good but they are not recognized, appreciated, and returned. Men like gestures that aren’t showy. Frustration and emotional fatigue result when you give without being recognized for doing so, over and over. It’s not about the gift anymore, but about what it looks like you are expecting. The key to not making generosity go to waste is appreciation!

Fixing Every Little Problem

Keeping track of all repair jobs, especially the larger ones in the home, can seem like a full-time job. Men are worn down by the taking-for-granted of efforts. They see when answers are required and don’t see thank you’s. Assistance must be a cooperative effort, not a one-man job. Being the fixer and not being recognized is tiring and unfair.

Bearing Her Financial Fears

If there is no shared responsibility in paying bills, debts or paying unnecessary money, there is tension. Men have eyes to see when they see that monetary commitments are made without serious thought. Respect and boundaries are linked to money and when you spend too much for someone who is irresponsible, you become frustrated. Relationships are about balance and not the one person bearing the burden. Financial care is no substitute for personal responsibility.

Over-Apologizing

It’s important to recognize that simply apologizing to avoid a conflict can actually hurt your self-esteem. Men are attuned to when they feel that a compromise becomes a surrender. Excessive apologizing leads to imbalance and resentment. It is more important to maintain dignity when disagreeing than to avoid little conflict. Accountability is set up in boundaries to not allow for one-sided emotional labor.

Giving Up Hobbies and Passions

By giving up his favorite hobby, to accommodate her schedule, he will develop a silent frustration. Men require outlets to help them feel full. When a person sacrifices her own passions for one who is indifferent towards time and interests, she creates a scenario of regrets. A healthy relationship fosters growth in partnership and individual growth. It is necessary to live together on one earth without losing one’s own identity, which is only possible through true compatibility.

Always Being the Motivator

It’s very tiring to push her to improve while she never pushes herself. Men pick up on one-sided encouragement. Without effort they won’t go half way, and that’s a problem with motivation. Growth in a relationship should be mutual. If a coach is able to continually provide no direction or improvement, over time, the coach becomes frustrating to the player and the player gets demoralized.

Covering for Her Socially

It’s tiring to be rude or irresponsible to family and friends. Men pick up when they are put in an explanatory mode. When protecting someone from the consequences of their actions, there is tension. There shouldn’t be a need for covering when repeated behavior is required for social harmony. The best relationship is one where there is no need for constant rescue and there is honesty.

Putting Up With Disrespect

It takes a toll on a man’s heart when he is constantly criticized, sarcastic or belittled. Denying disrespect for the sake of peace is a losing proposition. Men see when someone lacks patience. Borders are crucial to stop the repetition of abuse. Respect is non-negotiable and when it is not received, it will drain emotional reserves.

Endless Emotional Labor

The shoulder on which you lean should be a blessing, not a burden. If you listen to all your complaints and give advice, without being listened to in return, you’re in an imbalance. Unattended, underpaid emotional labour is draining. Men are wanting to connect, not to be constantly counseled. The pressure of containing her feelings without being reciprocated becomes too much over time.
